Anthropologie's Bridal Collection

I'm jealous. First, Vera Wang comes out with a stylish (and affordable) wedding line at David's Bridal and now Anthropologie/Urban Outfitters has launched it's very own bridal collection online. Umm, hello, I already got married. Why didn't this happen two years ago? Anyways, the new bridal line is called BHLDN. Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't get the meaning behind the name? (Update: I just realized it stands for "Beholden"). Regardless, the collection is amazing. Gown prices range from $1000-$4000. They also have an extensive assortment of bridesmaid dresses, shoes, jewelry and accessories. The look is definitely not for everyone, especially a traditional bride, but I love it. I would even consider purchasing some of the shoes or earrings for everyday wear if the prices weren't so high. I hope all of you brides-to-be take full advantage of these new collections. I know I would!

Filter Fun (My Bridal Accessories)

Photoshop filters...you either love 'em or hate 'em. In the art world some designers consider them amateur tools. I'm on the fence about it, but regardless, I don't use them nearly enough (you can create some really cool stuff!). The other day, I decided to have some fun with the photograph at left. It's a photo of my wedding accessories (shoes, purse, earrings, bracelet, and ring pillow) that I took last year. I was trying to channel a Martha Stewart-like look - haha! I've never been too sure what to do with the image, or how to use it, so the Photoshop exploration came in handy. Thoughts? Ideas? Which treatment do you like best? I think I like the scribbly qualities of #2!

I was so excited to stumble across these amazing bridal gems. Noaki, a California based designer, "resurrects heirloom pins, broken earrings and forgotten dress clips" to bring you the wonderful creations you see below. She has a website, blog and etsy store that are definitely worth checking out. I love the fact that these pieces are not only beautiful, but functional too...who's to say that after your wedding day you can't wear them with your favorite pair of jeans and tank top!

Old is the New New

Here's a blast from the past...my parent's wedding photos! Personally, I think they were pretty hip for the early 80's. My mom's dress was beautiful - if it fit me I would have seriously considered wearing it for my own wedding! My mom and dad just celebrated their 29th wedding anniversary last month, so a big congratulations is in order. Next year is the B-I-G 30! Thanks to both of them for being such good role models and parents.

Vintage Hair Pieces

Veils and hair pieces are usually left for the bride, but in this case the bridesmaids got to have all the fun! Recap: Old, New, Borrowed, Blue

As with most things in my life, I went a bit overboard with the "something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue" tradition. I wanted to have options, and that, I did! I had numerous special items that fell into each of the four categories. I wore all of them proudly.

Something New: My Earrings

Something Old & Blue: Vintage Pin I bought at a resale store many years ago. I wore it pinned to the inside of my wedding gown.

Something Old & Borrowed: My great grandmother's emerald cut ring (tied to my bouquet).

Something New & Blue: Garter, graciously purchased at the last minute for me by my best friend and bridesmaid, Kristie.

Something New: My bracelet, purse...and, of course, wedding dress!

Half up, Half down

In regards to hair and make-up, the most important thing to me on my wedding day was that I ended up looking like me! I have naturally curly hair, and I didn't want it hidden in an up-do or straightened with an iron. I went with a loose half-up, half-down style. It suited my personality and complimented the grecian look of my gown. I loved how the side curls swept across my face and twisted into the barrette in the back of my hair. I wanted the hair accessory I choose to subtly enhance my hair style, not overwhelm it. The rhinestone piece I found did just that! Overall, I was really pleased with my wedding hair...
